I am mid 50's and am developing fairly widespread osteo arthritis. I had some knee surgery several years ago to "tidy up" those joints and my orthopeadic surgeon recommended Glucosamine. I started at the higher recommended dose 2xdaily for several months and since then I have been taking a single lower daily dose for maintenance.
I am interested to hear if there is a recommended length for Glucosamine treatement. I am aware that the studies about its usefulness were not long term but of course when you are buying it the manufacturers or health stores are not going to suggest you stop. The product is supposed to rebuild cartilage so I wonder where the rationale is for long term use.
If I stop and see what happens and the pain to re-emerges then I would need to restart again at the higher dose and apparently it can take up to 3 months for a result to become apparent. I don't really want to do this if I don't have to. Does anyone have any experience with stopping glucosamine treatment. Is there a noticable difference? If yes how long after restarting glucosamine treatment before some releif was achieved.
Thanks
